CHIEF SCIENTIST

Position Overview

The Chief Scientist is HSA’s senior scientific authority, responsible for defining, governing and safeguarding the scientific foundations of a world‑leading hydrogen technology. This role ensures all scientific assumptions, operating envelopes and validation submissions are technically defensible and aligned with HSA’s commercialisation pathway.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the Scientific Basis of Design (SBOD)
  • Approve scientific assumptions across R&D, engineering, modelling and test functions
  • Chair scientific review gates (Concept, Preliminary Design Review, Detailed Design Review, Pre‑Assembly)
  • Oversee plasma physics, chemistry, reaction kinetics, gas evolution and thermal stability
  • Validate scientific models against empirical data
  • Translate experimental insights into engineering specifications and prototype constraints
  • Define scientific criteria for internal test protocols and acceptance thresholds
  • Maintain version‑controlled scientific documentation
  • Support external validation evidence packs for university and international verification bodies.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD in plasma physics, physical chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
  • 10–20+ years’ experience in plasma, electrochemical or high‑energy systems
  • Strong capability in scientific modelling, validation and documentation
  • Ability to communicate complex science to engineering and executive stakeholders.

Cultural & WHS Expectations

  • Evidence‑based decision‑making
  • Rigorous documentation and traceability
  • Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
  • WHS compliance for high‑voltage, plasma and gas‑handling systems.

If you’re ready to shape the scientific backbone of a world‑leading hydrogen technology, we’d like to hear from you.

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
